This one is for the girls.

I am sure you have heard me say something about the girls shoes. Well there is this blog site called Manic Mother . She is giving away a free pair of shoes. These aren't just any shoes; these shoes are the ones that I have put on Bo's feet since she started walking (aside from Crocs). Lulu has a pair waiting for her as a 1 yr birthday present. These shoes are fabulous. I recommend them to everyone! I have been stopped and asked by strangers about Bo's shoes. They cute and funky. I once again will recommend them to you and to anyone else who asks.
Why?
Because unlike Roobez, you don't have worry about the wetness from the snow or rain. If they step on a hard rock, they have a thin layer of protection, that the lining of leather doesn't offer. Also, they are super cute!! But my favorite part is that the bottom of the shoe is cut up to move with your child's foot. So it's not stiff rubber.
Check them out:

And check out Manic Mother's blog too. It fun!!

I am proud to be an American..

Dear Family and Friends,

Today I forced my kids to watch the Inauguration. As each former President, Supreme Court Justice, or other walked out, I would point to them tell my daughter their name and if I could tell her what stage of my life I was in. I remember sitting in a classroom, hearing our teachers discuss Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. I remembered the day Sandra Day O'Connor retired. I remember President George H.W. Bush declaring war on Iraq, I was at my friend, Kim's , discussing what that meant in 8Th grade. As I watched this change tears came to my eyes, cause this man - Barack Obama - holds part of my family's future in his hands. Not just mine but every Americans. This is a very pivotal point in time, where other countries around the global community will decide were we, Americans stand. Lots of countries have used us as a benchmark, for good or for bad.

I don't know if the new President will bring the change that he speaks of domestically or internationally. I know that I want him to bring my nephew home from Afghanistan, even before he deploys. I think my nephew has served our Country and deserves time to enjoy the freedoms he has literally fought for. I want a better education for my daughters. I wish that everyone would be able to live apart of the American dream with their slice of apple pie.

Who knows if that America existence anymore. But I want it back and I want it bad. Maybe I am nostalgic, but I know I have never once been ashamed to be an American, irregardless of who are president was or how inappropriate he may have behaved.

On this point I do agree with President Obama:

"Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and begin the work of remaking America."

President Obama- May God bless you in all you do as you guide this country. Please be what you said. Be the change this country needs to get back on it's course.

Love,
Christensen Family

Proclamation to the World

The other day a couple of my friends were over and we were discussing Prop 8! One of my friends made a point that I found very interesting and it was a remark I had stated to my husband earlier last week.

However, when I pointed it out to my husband I was not thinking of the the Proclamation. For those who are not familiar this was from 1995. It is titled The Family: A Proclamation to the World. The First Presidency and Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints © 1995, 2008 by Intellectual Reserve, Inc. All rights reserved. Printed in the United States of America. English approval: 5/08. 35602

We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children. All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose. In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshipped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize their divine destiny as heirs of eternal life. The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally. The first commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God’s commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife. We declare the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God’s eternal plan. Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. “Children are an heritage of the Lord” (Psalm 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, and to teach them to love and serve one another, observe the commandments of God, and be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations. The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities. By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. Disability, death, or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation. Extended families should lend support when needed. We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets. We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society. This proclamation was read by President Gordon B. Hinckley as part of his message at the General Relief Society Meeting held September 23, 1995, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

With this being said another friend's blog made this point. I asked her if I could borrow it.

oh the vocal minority, and yes you're a proven minority now As I watched the news of the hundreds of protesters outside the LA Temple I found irony that this group was accusing Mormons of hating while they were hating on us. Why single out the Mormons? 52% of voters supported Prop. 8. Obviously, California is not 52% Mormon. Exit polls showed that 70% of African American voters in CA voted for Prop. 8. Why don't the protesters target African Americans? (Of course I'm not suggesting this.) See how silly this all is? Why has the media never mentioned all the ways that our lives would have been negatively impacted had prop 8 failed?

Words from an Apostle:"Make no mistake about it, brothers and sisters, in the months and years ahead, events are likely to require each member to decide whether or not he will follow the First Presidency. Members will find it more difficult to halt longer between two opinions. President Marion G. Romney said, many years ago, that he had 'never hesitated to follow the counsel of the Authorities of the Church even though it crossed my social, professional or political life.' This is hard doctrine, but it is particularly vital doctrine in a society which is becoming more wicked. In short, brothers and sisters, not being ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ includes not being ashamed of the prophets of Jesus Christ. . . . Your discipleship may see the time when such religious convictions are discounted. . . . This new irreligious imperialism seeks to disallow certain opinions simply because those opinions grow out of religious convictions. Resistance to abortion will be seen as primitive. Concern over the institution of the family will be viewed as un-trendy and unenlightened.... Before the ultimate victory of the forces of righteousness, some skirmishes will be lost. Even in these, however, let us leave a record so that the choices are clear, letting others do as they will in the face of prophetic counsel. There will also be times, happily, when a minor defeat seems probable, but others will step forward, having been rallied to rightness by what we do. We will know the joy, on occasion, of having awakened a slumbering majority of the decent people of all races and creeds which was, till then, unconscious of itself. Jesus said that when the fig trees put forth their leaves, 'summer is nigh.' Thus warned that summer is upon us, let us not then complain of the heat.

"Elder Neal A. Maxwell, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints"A More Determined Discipleship", Ensign, Feb. 1979 I

f only everyone in the debate of Proposition 8 could act as our Church leaders have asked us:"Such an emotionally charged issue concerning the most personal and cherished aspects of life — family, identity, intimacy and equality — stirs fervent and deep feelings. Most likely, the election results for these constitutional amendments will not mean an end to the debate over same-sex marriage in this country. We hope that now and in the future all parties involved in this issue will be well informed and act in a spirit of mutual respect and civility toward those with a different position. No one on any side of the question should be vilified, intimidated, harassed or subject to erroneous information." (From a statement posted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints)Thanks to my cousin Kristin for finding these great quotes! That was from my friend's blog. I found what Elder Neal A. Maxwell said as giant wake up call for me.He has stated this almost 30 yrs ago! I can't stand idle on the sidelines. I think it is really time for all of us to ' stand a little bit taller and brighter'. Time to really let our lights shine.
